SF Workout and Ballgame

Well guys, I am tired but I’m supposed to be keeping the puppy awake, which is not really working out too well. When puppies want to sleep, they SLEEP.

Friday was an awesome first real full day of summer. I started the morning with my current go-to breakfast-oatmeal, eggs, and blueberries.

IMG_2490

I cooked the oatmeal on the stovetop with plain soy milk, banana, and vanilla extract. I made a big batch so I’ve been eating the rest of it every day since!

Then, midmorning my high school friend and I headed up to San Francisco for a workout adventure! While in DC, I did some Outruns, were were group runs mixed with bootcamp stops. I thought it would be fun to do it here, so I created a little workout for us. We started at the Ferry building.

IMG_2493 IMG_2496

And then ran on the Embarcadero towards Fisherman’s wharf. We covered a total of 3 miles, and stopped every half mile for a bootcamp session.

IMG_2497 IMG_2498

These were our stations:

1. 6 minutes: 1 min each 2x of jumping jacks, mountain climbers, and plank

2. 5 minute AMRAP: 5 squat jumps, 10 lunges each side, 10 plank dips

3. Abs (I’m still sore from this one): 6 minutes, 1 minute each: plank, Russian twist, bicycle, in and out, plank, Russian twist

(Meeting a friendly dog mid-plank.)

4. 3 sets of 10 squats

IMG_2504

5. On a bench, 3 sets of 10 each: push ups, step ups, dips

IMG_2499

The whole point of starting at the Ferry building (besides the fact that it was flat) was to grab lunch there afterwards, and we were more than ready post-workout! Since I’m not eat gluten right now, I was excited to see a Gluten-free cafe!

IMG_2505

I got a turkey sandwich with cranberry sauce on a gluten free roll. It was an absolutely beautiful day in the city, so we enjoyed lunch outside with a view.

IMG_2506 IMG_2507

We stopped at an ice cream place for dessert.

IMG_2494

The secret breakfast is their most famous flavor, but I went with salted caramel cacao nib, which was delicious!

IMG_2514

I also picked up a gluten free pumpkin chocolate chip muffin to go from the cafe.

That evening, I went to a Giant’s game with my dad-my first of the season. We have the prettiest ballpark.

IMG_2516

IMG_2522 IMG_2524

Unfortunately, we lost, but it was still awesome to be back there! Also-how cool is this-we now have a garden, with an avocado tree!

IMG_2518

They have two food vendors there, and I was able to watch the game while enjoying an asparagus salad with truffle oil, and a gluten free flatbread with roasted asparagus.

IMG_2519 IMG_2521

SO good!

Hopefully next time we bring home the win!

What was your last workout?

Do you watch baseball?

SUMMER

Guess what? It’s officially summer for me! Which means more blog time and puppy time!

I finished my last final Wednesday afternoon, and was almost immediately on puppy duty-she came to school and got to meet all my friends!

IMG_2470 IMG_2471 IMG_2472

I didn’t actually move out of my dorm until yesterday though.

Moving out is always fun….I always forget how much stuff it actually is! I managed to be pretty efficient though-I think the whole process took 4 hours, which seems like a long time but could be much worse.

IMG_2483

First item of business back was a workout at my home Crossfit! I have a feeling I’m just going to be really sore a lot of the time these first few weeks. The stuff we do there is harder. Thursday’s workout was rope climbs, ring rows, and bent over rows, and then the following WOD:

10 rounds:

10 push jerks

10 hand release push ups

10 knees to elbow or V ups

My arms are still so sore 2 days later.

Here are Thursday’s meals. I’m trying to balance my meals more with protein, carbs, and vegetables.

IMG_2478

The dining hall was closed so a sort of random breakfast-formerly frozen mashed sweet potatoes, and cottage cheese with sun butter and blueberries.

Lunch was a Trader Joe’s salad with chicken, dried cranberries, kale, broccoli slaw, and sunflower seeds.

IMG_2480

And finally, my first dinner home was guacamole salad with a side of brown rice/quinoa.

IMG_2487

On the way home from Crossfit, I picked up some Greek yogurt bars. The verdict? Good! Light and perfect for summer, and not too sweet!

IMG_2488 IMG_2489

I have another post with some SF adventures to come!

Meet Chloe

She is 8 weeks old, and an absolute fluff ball!

1 Day!

Hey guys! I am currently in the midst of finals. Yay for the quarter system! My first final is tomorrow (yes, on a Saturday…cool) so I’m taking a quick study break to blog!

Guess what my parents will be doing while I’m in my final?

Bringing this girl home!

IMG_2348

To say I’m excited would be the understatement of the year! We still need a name though! Right after my final I’m hightailing it home to meet her!

One of the reasons I wanted to post today was because I’m now doing some different and specific things with my eating and nutrition. It’s kind of complicated and for a variety of reasons which I may eventually post on, but I wanted to document a day.

This morning I did a super quick track workout-just 6x400m. Beforehand, I ate half a banana. Then….this is actually super exciting…I had a cappuccino! It was decaf-believe me-but I haven’t had one since February since the whole destroying my stomach lining thing, and my body didn’t hate it and it was delicious!

IMG_2360

I needed one before the year ended!

Breakfast was at the dining hall-I had to bring my own sun butter, but I made a yogurt bowl with plain greek yogurt and honeydew (the only fruit option…which actually was really good in yogurt-who knew?), and some roasted potatoes.

IMG_2361

Then I hit the library for a few hours before lunch.

I really loaded up on the veggies-a side salad, a couple of carrots, and lettuce cups with sautéed veggies. Plus chicken with ketchup and brown rice.

IMG_2363

I also had a couple of bites of chocolate soft serve. I’m trying to learn to enjoy sweets in small portions without totally denying my sweet tooth!

My afternoon snack was some chicken and a mango.

IMG_2364

And then right before Crossfit I had half a banana, some seed crackers, and sunbutter.

At Crossfit we did back squats with a slow descend. The WOD was 3 rounds of 15 pull ups, 30 double unders, and 15 kb swings. The trick was that the kb swings were with a kb that was a size heavier than we would normally use-and it definitely made a big difference in the difficulty level!

I stopped at Whole Foods for dinner.

IMG_2365

I got cauliflower bisque and added spinach and chicken breast for some more staying power, plus a little potato salad and some mushrooms (which I ended up not being a fan of). And kombucha!

I also got some fancy raw chocolate bar.

IMG_2366

It was filled with some sort of date paste. Good, but I think I may not be ready for the caffeine content of dark chocolate because I’m definitely feeling this a bit!

So that was my day. I know I haven’t been blogging much lately. I feel like I’m at sort of a Crossroads. I’m trying to make some lifestyle changes this summer, and I will also have a ton of blog content this summer (hello-PUPPY) so we will see.

IMG_2352

Do you have any puppy name ideas??

Lazy Sunday

Hello! I’m currently hanging out outside of Philz Coffee, sipping a mint iced tea.

IMG_0432

I went to a spin class this morning and Philz is really close so I figured I’d stop in and get some work done. It would be significantly more pleasant if the people next to me weren’t smoking though…

The spin class was awesome! I tried a new local studio-Uforia. It had super high Yelp reviews, and it lived up to my expectations! The instructor was full of energy and the room was hopping! I will definitely be back! Another plus-they give out blueberries and cold towels after class. I never realized how heavenly a cold towel could be!

In terms of the tea-it’s full of fresh mint! I can’t really do coffee or caffeine very much right now which is why I went with the mint tea. Tastes like summer though!

I’m currently in the final push of the year-luckily my schedule isn’t too bad. I only have 2 finals and a low-key take home final, and no projects, just normal problem sets. Plus, plenty of time to study because my finals are actually spaced out!

I wanted to share some pictures from this past week.

This past Thursday was my last day of Bio lab-we went to a biological reserve to do research, and it was beautiful weather for the last day!

IMG_2311 IMG_2314

In other life news, I threw an alumni tea party for my sorority yesterday. Throwing an event means I’m in charge of the food-and I went to Costco for the goods! 8 lbs of strawberries!

IMG_2322 IMG_2321

I got berries, pita chips and hummus, fancy brie, a cheese platter, whole grain crackers, a veggie platter, madelines, and blueberry coffeecake bites. It was quite the success!

In terms of normal food-here’s a breakfast-hard boiled eggs and mango post-Crossfit:

IMG_2308

Another lunch salad of chicken+hummus.

IMG_2317

Snack-loving the summer fruit right now!

IMG_2318

That’s all I have for now! I’m thinking about getting an acai bowl for lunch since I’ve never had one!
